Souper Bowl of Caring will receive 25% of the profits after World Vision sponsorships in 2007. SBC was begun and is based right here in Columbia, SC. This grassroots movement enables young people to put God's love in motion by helping hurting and hungry people on Super Bowl weekend. The fundamental concept is very simple-youth receive one-dollar donations from parishioners as they depart worship on Super Bowl Sunday. The youth will send ALL the proceeds directly to a local charity of their choice. The vision, however, is to see this youth-led movement of God’s love transform Super Bowl weekend into a time of caring and compassion that touches the hearts, inspires the souls and feeds the stomachs of millions of people.
Since the inception of Souper Bowl, over $33 million has been generated for soup kitchens, food banks and other charities. Also, over the past two years over 28,000 youth has served hands-on at a charity the Saturday before the big game.
Money donated by LRAH in 2006 was utilized to promote local participation in the Souper Bowl collection, creating tens of thousands of dollars that fed area hungry while hundreds of young people benefited from putting God’s love in action. This is made possible by SBOC unique ability to generate an average of $10 per every dollar raised the past two years.
